THE YEAR 2018

Growth and Balance

I could start out this post as a giant feel of gratitude, which will ALWAYS be how I feel, but this year was about growth and balance. I am utterly obsessed with my career and sometimes don’t know how to separate myself to enjoy my own personal adventures. I care a lot, always putting my clients and friends first. I am always eager to learn new skills and always wanting to be better within every aspect. 2018 was my year, to put myself in the top priority list. This sounds like an easy task, but it wasn’t.

Looking through the adventures that 2018 has brought, I have never felt so humbled and so happy. I’ve shared so many life events with you all. The excitement and racing heart of a new engagement, tears of happiness and smiles of a blissful wedding day. The new feels of expanding your family with the stages of maternity, the new love that your heart has felt for the first time with your newborn. The playfulness and bond of family time. Standing proud of your achievements as a senior and what the next chapter has to offer.  The opening of your mind with creativeness, so we can pull out what makes you, you, with portraits.

You all chose me to share this with, and that is something that makes my heart overflow.

ALL OF YOU.

You leave me speechless and with a heart so full. And just when I think to myself “How can I even feel more than I do now.. ?”

My heart expands and keeps filling.

So..what do I mean by balance? I could just schedule a day off for myself and call it good, right?

My kind of balance is taking in the small moments life offers me daily. Like, taking an hour and walking along the shoreline of Lake Huron, feeling the sand beneath my feet and listening to the water rush to meet me. Laying in the cool grass with the sun upon my face, or taking a bike ride through the wooded trail by my home. Actually dancing in the rain of a warm summer day or sitting around a bonfire with your best friends while playing music.. having your morning coffee outside and listening to the birds sing..

These are the small things I would brush off because I had my own deadlines to meet or there was always work to be done..

I learned that I needed to make sure that I was keeping a balance, for my own personal growth along with growth within my business. I have been working hard, pretty much nonstop at building over the last 5 years, that I almost forgot how to separate myself and take in the moment. This is still a work in progress everyday but, it had lead to the most incredible year.

2019 is already starting to top it with the adventures lined up and I am ready to chase the light!

On an end note, I want to say a huge thank you to my partnerships with the most influential people in my industry who have my best interest always, MeghanMelia Photography, Justine Castle Photography and Jennifer A. Berggren Productions.

And also a huge shout out to Eighth Day Media and the Port Huron Prowlers for the continued growth in friendship and business.

CHEERS TO 2019!!

Ashley + Braxton

A pure summer breeze swept through the trees on this most perfect day in Holly, Michigan. This was one of the most relaxed weddings of the season and completely filled with smiles.

I met Ashley about a month and a half before her wedding in August. It was a last minute find when she was sent to me through our mutual friend and I could not have been more pleased. Ashley’s energy, this beautiful hippy carefree essence captivates you, and then you meet Braxton and it was like a piece of Ashley you didn’t know was missing and then found. Together they have Jude. This blonde haired, feral beautiful little boy. This family is so completely engulfed in each other and you cannot help but feel their love. My heart was so full just being around them.

Our day started out with the normal getting ready. Ashley’s dress was bought like a blank slate and she added her touch, her vision and it was like a dream. The gold with tear drop plugs and her barefoot jewelry was immensely perfect to her dress.

Red Riding Hood Stables in Holly, Michigan hosted this gorgeous unity. Ashley and Braxton had their pups in the wedding party and Ashley’s mother embraced her arm as they walked down the aisle. The vintage couches for the ceremony,  the horses outside while they exchanged their vows in the late day sun, and dinosaurs with the sand ceremony. I felt like I was watching a film. Our agenda for the day was to enjoy it and gosh, we were. The big white tent and the handmade table favors, the pig roast and bbq was filling the air.

I took Ashley and Braxton away into the next field for their portraits. This is the time I want my couples to let their moment fill their hearts and I let them enjoy each other. This couple plays and laughs and honestly are the truest of soulmates.

We danced and had ice cream and cookies after dinner and played some more. The vibe of this wedding was unreal.

Janelle + John

When these two cuties told me they were engaged in the Rocky Mountains, I knew this was going to be a good match.

Janelle wanted an enchanted forest theme for the wedding and let me tell you, IT WAS ENCHANTING. I was super in love with the details they chose, this including John’s green suit and all of the guests dressed in the green of the theme.

The energy of the day was just amazing, even with a few set backs. I absolutely loved Janelle’s carefree attitude and John’s quietness.. together they are a very relaxed couple. John ended up forgetting his shirt at home and then after traveling back, realized he left his shoes. Without mentioning the reason why things were running behind, Janelle’s coordinator and family friend called all of us whom were in the women’s dressing room into a prayer circle. Holding hands with this beautiful family, like I was one of their own.. I cannot express enough, how much this filled my heart.

John was quite calm and collected even though he needed to figure out a quick solution, John’s good friend came to the rescue with swapping shoes.

Only running a few minutes behind, Janelle was walked down the aisle by both her mother and father. After a beautiful and super quick ceremony and we raced off to the near by nature park for portraits.

Janelle + John were just stunning, so stunning in fact that a nearby observer  was inspired to draw a portrait of them as we were taking photos. This sweet young women ran over to Janelle and apologized for interrupting but wanted to give them this portrait she drew. This act of love was seriously such a precious moment. My heart was seriously bursting.

Once we finished up getting all “woodsy”, we headed back to Laurel Manor.

The emotions were running high as we returned , as they normally are during a wedding day, Janelle and John were ready to get this party started.
